After several delays, Sidewalk/Google has submitted its 1500-page "Master Innovation and Development Plan" (MIDP) to build a section of Toronto’s waterfront “from the internet up." Hear an initial take on the Master Plan from subject matter experts, have a chance to discuss your concerns and find out how to get involved, both in formal consultations and community campaigns.
Over the last year and a half, Sidewalk/Google has market-tested potential products, while diverting attention from larger questions, such as:
- The nature of Sidewalk/Google's business model,
- The quasi-governmental role it envisions for itself,
- Its desire for public land, infrastructure and funds,
- Sidewalk/Google's track record on jobs, community safety, inclusion and equity.
Community priorities must not get lost in the intensive marketing and lobbying that will likely accompany the Plan’s release. In this workshop, #BlockSidewalk organizers invite community members to help develop a set of critical questions to bring into upcoming public consultations on the Master Plan (MIDP) - not only the ideas it contains, but the questions and issues it omits.
